Beyond Stocks And Bonds: Diversify With Alternative Investments

Higher market volatility has sparked investor interest in alternative investments, like private debt, infrastructure and commercial real estate, that could reduce risk in their portfolio. Individual investors now have access to these assets that were only available to institutional investors. Kim Parlee speaks with Ted Welter, Chief Investment Officer, Alternative Investments at TD Asset Management.

Podcasts grow as alternative media form

Sheletta Brundidge could have used TV, blogs, YouTube, books, radio or newspapers. Instead, she chose podcasts. Her mission was to present the stories of black people, and she concluded that podcasts were best way to do it. "Everyone is making podcasts," said Brundidge, a Cottage Grove radio producer who launched seven podcasts on Feb. 1. They are among the 850,000 podcasts and 30 million total episodes in the U.S., according to podcastinsights.com . Podcast income is exploding, with advertising revenue increasing four-fold in five years to $679 million, according the website buzzsprout.com .
